A student must be a Lafayette Parish High School Sophomore, Junior, or Senior to apply for admission. Students need to complete the application on this website and also indicate their interest to their school counselor during the regular scheduling sessions. A record of regular school attendance and good discipline are major factors in a student being accepted into a program.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do students attend? Students attend either the first session for periods 1-3 or our second session for periods 5-7 of their school day.
Is transportation provided? Yes, the Lafayette Parish School System provides transportation back and forth from home-base high schools for each session.
Do the classes count towards graduation? Yes, students earn three Carnegie Units in each of the courses. Students work with their home-base school counselor to ensure they stay on track for graduation.
How much does it cost? The Career Center is a public school. Students do not pay tuition. Some classes have fees. Check the program section of this site for more information about individual programs.
Which courses offer dual enrollment with SLCC? The culinary, medical assistant, and nursing assistant courses offer dual enrollment with SLCC.
What is the Collegiate Technical Academy? The Collegiate Technical Academy allows students who start the culinary classes as sophomores to have the opportunity to earn a technical diploma from SLCC when they graduate from high school. This will also put them well on their way to earning an associate's degree.
Where is the Career Center? The Career Center is located at 200 18th Street adjacent to Paul Breaux Middle School in a neighborhood off E. Pinhook Road.
