Construction Update: Lafayette High School’s New Campus
The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) is thrilled to share the latest updates on the construction of the new Lafayette High School campus. Designed to inspire learning, celebrate creativity, and prepare students for a bright future, this state-of-the-art facility is shaping up to be a landmark for our community.
A Special Visit: Principal and Board Members Tour the Progress
This week, Lafayette High School Principal Layne Edelman, accompanied by members of the school board, toured the construction site to witness firsthand the incredible progress being made. Guided by the project team, they received a live update on milestones achieved and those just around the corner. Here's what they saw and heard during their visit:
What’s Happening on Site
- Gymnasium Completion on the Horizon
The competition gym, a cornerstone of the athletic complex, is on track to be finished by January 2025. The group saw the nearly completed structure and envisioned the cheers of students and families filling the space soon.
- Bus Lane -Coming Soon
Transportation efficiency at Lafayette High is about to get a big boost! The dedicated bus lane, designed to streamline drop-off and pick-up processes, will be completed in the coming weeks.
- Walls Are Up!
From classrooms to communal areas, drywall and block work are largely in place, bringing the building’s layout to life.
Campus Features to Celebrate
The tour highlighted some of the most exciting features of the new campus:
- Music in Motion: A stunning band room with soaring high ceilings will provide students with an inspiring space for practice and performance.
- A Show-Stopper Auditorium: Spanning multiple building levels, the auditorium will be the heart of school and community events, offering a professional-grade venue for performances, assemblies, and more.
- Cutting-Edge Classrooms: 52 high-tech classrooms and labs tailored for modern learning.
- Creative and Career Spaces: Wood and welding shops for Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
- Safety-First Design: Features like improved visibility and secure layouts reflect LPSS’s commitment to student well-being.
The campus remains on track for full completion ahead of the 2025-26 school year.
