At L. Leo Judice Elementary, gardening is more than just a science lesson—it’s an opportunity to grow leaders and connect students with their community.
The Garden Ambassadors, a group of enthusiastic fourth graders, are at the heart of the school’s garden program. These young leaders work closely with master gardeners and teachers to learn about gardening and then pass on their knowledge by teaching peers.
As part of the LSU AgCenter/Master Gardener School Garden Initiative, L. Leo Judice fourth-grade classes partner with the LSU AgCenter 4-H Youth Development Program and the Master Gardener Program. Together, they use gardening to make learning exciting and relevant.
Through this program, students gain:
- Stewardship skills: Caring for plants and their community.
- Hands-on learning: Connecting science curriculum to real-world applications.
- Healthy habits: Discovering the joys of fresh produce and learning culinary skills to prepare it.
This year, students are also diving into the Learn, Grow, Eat & GO! curriculum in their science lab. By the end of the school year, they’ll have explored the science of gardening, mastered basic cooking skills, and inspired others with their love for fresh, healthy food.
Through these experiences, L. Leo Judice students are not just learning—they’re growing, leading, and inspiring a healthier future for all.
