The Louisiana Department of Education has named J. Joy Stalnaker, a French Immersion teacher at Myrtle Place Elementary in Lafayette, the Elementary Teacher of the Year. Ms. Stalnaker teaches first grade math, science, and social studies. Her innovative teaching methods, unwavering commitment to student success, and ability to inspire both students and colleagues sets the standard for educational excellence in Lafayette Parish and Louisiana.
Lafayette Parish Schools Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr., applauds Ms. Stalnaker for her dedication and passion for education. Touchet says, “Her remarkable impact on her students and her role as a leader in the field of education make her a true example of teaching excellence. She fosters a love of learning and pride in Louisiana for all her students.”
The Lafayette Parish School System also congratulates Morgan Toups, an educator at David Thibodeaux STEM Magnet Academy, as a finalist for Louisiana’s New Teacher of the Year.
Superintendent Touchet appreciates the recognition of Lafayette Parish’s promising cohort of new educators, saying, “Ms. Toups represents the bright future of education in Lafayette Parish. I am excited to offer new teachers the opportunity to join a team of such talented educators like her and Ms. Stalnaker.”
The winners were honored during the 18th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala held on Saturday, July 26, 2024, in Baton Rouge.
