The Lafayette Parish School System is pleased to announce that Alex Melton has been named principal of David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy. Mr. Melton has served as a teacher and assistant principal in his 24 years of education. He is committed to ensuring all students learn to their maximum potential and to fostering innovation through collaboration with all stakeholders.
During his fourteen years as a middle school mathematics teacher, he also served as Dean of Students as well as a middle and high school varsity coach. Mr. Melton has been the principal at Early College Academy since 2017. During his time there, ECA has been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education, a National ESEA Distinguished School, and ranked as the number one school in the state of Louisiana. Prior to becoming the principal at ECA, Alex was an assistant principal for five years at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy.
Superintendent Trosclair stated, “Mr. Melton has a proven and successful professional record during his time spent at ECA and I am thrilled that he is able to return to David Thibodaux STEM as the new principal.”
Mr. Melton earned his bachelor’s degree and master of education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The Lafayette Parish School System is excited to welcome Mr. Melton into this role at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy. LPSS would also like to congratulate Jeff Debetaz on his retirement from the Lafayette Parish School System.
