The students of Charles Burke Elementary School held a book character parade last week in the school cafeteria and were able to show their creativity as they dressed as a character in a book. The parade is a school tradition that began in 2005 as a way to promote reading among students. The parade did not happen last year due to COVID reasons, so students were excited for it to return and participate this year.
Each class dresses as characters from a chosen book and parades around the school. The staff, students, and parents look forward to this tradition each year. Loretta Williams, principal of Charles Burke Elementary, shares, “We love this opportunity for students to participate in a fun event that highlights the fun and creative aspects of reading.”
Parents were not able to attend this year, but pictures were shared on the school’s Facebook page of the students enjoying the fun.
