The Early College Academy Named a Blue Ribbon School

The Louisiana Department of Education released its list of nominations for the U.S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Schools program this morning. The Lafayette Parish School System’s Early College Academy was named on the list of nominees. The National Blue Ribbon Schools program has recognized the highest achieving schools in the nation for 36 years. According to the U.S. Department of Education, “The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.” The Early College Academy is Louisiana’s 3rd highest performing school, with a school performance score of 131.7. ECA principal, Alex Melton, said: “The students, teachers, staff, and administration of Early College Academy are proud to accept the nomination as a National Blue Ribbon school. The nearly 40-year history of Blue Ribbon schools has yielded many outstanding nominees, and we at ECA are honored to be among them. The nomination is a direct result of the hard work of the students and teachers. We will continue to push and to develop our program in the hope that we are a Blue Ribbon recipient.” Superintendent Dr. Donald Aguillard offered his congratulations to the administration and staff of ECA saying, “The hard work and dedication of the staff and students of the Early College Academy is a testament to the potential of excellence in education in Lafayette Parish.”
