Lafayette Parish School System to brand its Child Care Resource and Referral Agency

The Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) is planning to identify and adopt a new brand for the Child Care
Resource and Referral Agency within the next six months.

After learning the original name, “Success By 5 Alliance,” could potentially cause a copyright infringement with United Way Worldwide’s (UWW) “Success By 6,” a 20-year-old program that provides educational services to pre-K children, LPSS and United Way of Acadiana (UWA), UWW’s local affiliate that serves Lafayette Parish, collaborated to find a solution to avoid legal interventions and unnecessary costs.

“We value our partnership with United Way of Acadiana and look forward to continuing that partnership in the foreseeable future,” said Superintendent Dr. Donald Aguillard.

"We appreciate the willingness of LPSS to modify its program name, and anticipate a smooth transition over the next 6 months,” said UWA President and CEO Margaret Trahan. “The focus of LPSS on early childhood issues is important, and we share that common interest. Working together creates momentum and more opportunity for children to be school ready."

“LPSS Early Childhood Department staff members work with United Way Early Childhood Staff and plan to continue this work, striving for excellence in early childhood for the Lafayette community,” said Director of Early Childhood Christine Duay.

“This solution is a win-win and yet another example of how LPSS and UWA work together to advance the common good,” Trahan added.

LPSS and UWA currently partner on projects like Stuff the Bus school supply drive and United Way Readers tutoring program. Recently, they held a joint press conference announcing the roll out of a new collaboration designed to provide more resources to public schools called United Way Adopt-A-School.
