This is an informative letter that should give information concerning Dual Enrollment as we end the 2017-2018 school year.

  • Dual Enrollment Mandatory Orientation will be August 8, 2017 @ 9:00 am in the Cafeteria. Parents are always welcome.

  • You will receive your class schedule, login/passwords for Canvas, instructions on how to set up your Solacc email address, etc.

  • Transportation information to SLCC.

  • Please sign in to the google classroom account of Dual Enrollment and check on it periodically over the summer: po1ckks

Students will not have the current grade in the College class  posted on their Progress Report.   A  parent may request the current grade of their son/daughter by contacting me either through email/text/call. Students have been instructed to furnish their parents with the  user/login for Canvas. From the Canvas site, you can see the current grade and assignments for your son/daughter.

Dual Enrollment Reminders  

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

The David Thibodaux Dual Enrollment Program is designed for junior and senior students who have the ability to benefit from instruction of a technical and/or academic course.

 

SECTION I            STUDENT RECRUITMENT

1.          Recruitment and admission of high school students to SLCC shall be conducted collaboratively by the staff from SLCC and David Thibodaux Stem Magnet Academy (DTSMA).

2.          Junior and Senior students who are enrolled at DTSMA will be allowed to attend SLCC on a full-time or part-time basis.  The philosophy of the program is for students to receive advanced instruction in their chosen career path by attending a community college while enrolled in high school.

3.          The recruitment and enrollment of good, strong, academic students to SLCC programs will be a priority. The recruitment of these students is a long-term project.

SECTION II           STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

I. General criteria

1.        Student must be at least 15 years of age and currently enrolled in 11th, or 12th grade at a public Louisiana high school or any private school that has a memorandum of understanding with South Louisiana Community College.

2.        Student must have either PLAN or ACT (or SAT equivalent) scores on file at the high school.

3.        Student must have a GPA of 2.0 and be in good standing as defined by the high school and meet the college/university enrollment criteria.

4.        Student must have permission from the high school and his/her parent/guardian to participate.

5.        Student must be enrolled in a college course for which dual credit (both college and high school credit) is attempted and recorded on both the student's secondary and postsecondary academic record.

6.        A dual-enrolled student is expected to follow the same withdrawal deadlines as any other undergraduate student in the college or university.
