From the Superintendent...

As we prepare for the upcoming 2014-2015 budgeting cycle, I along with Billy Guidry, Chief Financial Officer, have hosted a series of meetings with teacher, principal and parent advisory groups to provide a general overview and discussion regarding the preliminary projected 2014-2015 budget for our school district's General Fund. The main areas of discussion include:

  1. Preliminary Projected Budget for 14-15 estimates a shortfall of $10,435,959 and this is after we estimate reducing expenditures by about $4,738,712.
  2. A possible change in current fund balance requirements from 3 months of operating expenditures to 2 months of operating expenditures to allow use of fund balance to help offset the shortfall.
  3. Possible use of 2002 Sales Tax in the amount of $2,000,000. In a manner that complies with the related tax dedications associated and that would result in an offset to the shortfall.
