From the Superintendent...

During this season of giving thanks, I am most grateful to work with our faculty, staff, students and their families each day. On October 24th our district and schools' letter grades were released by the state's Department of Education. The results are indicative of the commitment we all have in the success of our students. I am proud of our faculty and staff as we were graded on tougher standards than previous years, but we still maintained a B status. I want you to know that this is not a onetime fluke, the success is based on the initial implementation of the 100% In 100% Out plan, including Instructional Strategists, Data Analysts, Health and Wellness functions, increased opportunities for professional development, Moss Prep to address students with special learning environment needs.

We are very pleased that we have an increase in the number of top gains schools to 12 from 8 last year. With 9 A schools; 9 B's 10 C's 10 Ds and one school working diligently to move out of the F status we are encouraged that 72% of our schools ranked average and above; and that 89% of our teachers are rated effective or highly effective based on the Compass evaluation system...

November is American Diabetes Awareness Month:
Here are just a few of the recent statistics on diabetes:

-Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes.

-Another 79 million Americans have pre-diabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

-The American Diabetes Association estimates that the total national cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States is $174 billion.
