From the Superintendent.. 

In January this year, I proposed a resolution for Public Education to the school board. In doing so, I asked that we form a Community Education Plan Committee to, one, utilize information in the original Master Plan relative to deficiencies in schools to create a new plan of action driven by the six year instructional "turn-around" plan to develop modern schools. The committee will also tie into Lafayette Consolidated Government's and UL Lafayette's master plans where feasible and logical. Second, develop a funding initiative that combines options such as dedicated sales tax, property tax, New Market tax credits and private contributions of land and/or buildings to fund both the six year plan program and the facility needs required by that program.


Understanding that it is my responsibility to lead in the efforts to create an excellent, high-performing public school system; and, having taken that responsibility seriously in the last year by assessing the state of public education in Lafayette Parish through examination of the data, encouraging community involvement and input through the creation of a six year turnaround plan, and by working with principals, teachers and staff to determine their program and facility needs.
