1st Grade Math

 

Unit 1: Extending the Counting Sequence

Common Core Math Skills: activities aligned to each of the Grade 1 Common Core State Standards.

 Counting and Number Patterns: counting 10s and ones to 30 using ten frames.  Student writes the number of tens and then number of ones shown, then writes the numeral for the number represented.

 

Unit 2: Adding and Subtracting to 10

Common Core Math Skills: activities aligned to each of the Grade 1 Common Core State Standards.

 Counting and Number Patterns: counting 10s and ones to 30 using ten frames.  Student writes the number of tens and then number of ones shown, then writes the numeral for the number represented.

 Addition Games: - addition of one digit numbers in game format - basketball, soccer, concentration

 Base Ten Numbers: 2 digit numbers are shown and student moves tens and ones blocks to represent the number

 Place Value: dinosaur and volcano with numbers shown on the rocks. Number appears on volcano, students clicks the tens rock, then the ones rock to show the given number in a box that appears.

 Conserving Numbers: addition and subtraction, concentration for those needing work on conservation of number

 Math Magician - website to practice addition and subtraction, can choose the value of the second addend (+0, +1, +2, etc) and the value to subtract (-0, -1, -2, etc)

 Fact Families:  The worksheets found at this site can be used to practice fact families using triangles

 Number Bonds: The worksheets found at this site can be used to practice number bonds.  The value of the whole can be set for a specific number.

 Addition and Subtraction: addition and subtraction worksheet generators that can be customized for certain sums, addends, or the value to be subtracted

 Math Lines is a game where students have to shoot the ball to the partner number to make a certain sum.

 Number Twins is a game where students have to choose two balls that make a given sum.  Students choose balls until the board is cleared.  It can be challenging because balls have to be free in order for them to be used. This would be good practice for at home (once the game is learned). It takes quite a bit of time to complete one page.

 

Unit 3: Operations and Algebraic Thinking

Double It Up is a song that is used to help students learn how to double addition facts.

 Doubles: This site has additional games to practice doubles facts and a read-aloud book that explores doubles.

 Near Doubles: The following website is a great resource for ideas to practice near doubles.

 

Unit 4: Number and Operations in Base Ten

Base Ten Concentration: Students play a concentration type game where they match the numeral to a pictorial representation showing tens and ones. 

Online Tens and Ones Game:  Students type in the numeral that matches the tens and ones.  

Base Ten Concentration: A game that students can play while working with base ten.

 Tens and Ones: Students can play a game that will identify tens and ones in a given number.
