School Preparation : Start Date August 17

Yesterday, the Lafayette Parish School Board held its monthly meeting. The agenda included the 2020-2021 Learn Lafayette Initial Reopening Plan. District staff released the plan last week that detailed how students and staff would return to campus in the fall, which is dependent on the governor’s phases of reopening.
After much discussion between members of the school board and public comments, the school board voted to proceed with the proposed initial reopening plan presented by district staff. Therefore, school will start on August 17 in Phase 2 guidelines. Last night’s approval of the plan does not change the fact that the Covid-19 situation is an ever-evolving one, and details of the plan are fluid and will be adjusted as needed.
District staff reiterated during the meeting that the plan presented is a summary of what students and staff can expect. There are many more details, processes and procedures that continue to be developed and will be communicated as district staff work with school leaders in making school campuses safe for the return of students and staff. Most importantly, this initial plan will be adjusted as it relates to our district and each individual school. We remain in close contact with the Louisiana Department of Health and Louisiana Department of Education when making all reopening decisions.
We have created a Back to School Family Prep flyer with suggestions for families on what they can do now to prepare for the upcoming school year.
