Temporary Meal Payment Waiver Offered to Lafayette Parish School System Students

In response to disastrous conditions caused by the recent flooding, the United States Department of Agriculture has authorized the Louisiana Department of Education to allow certain flexibilities in School Meal Programs.   Lafayette was among those parishes affected, being declared a Major Disaster area by FEMA.

As of Wednesday, August 24, 2016, students attending all Lafayette Parish schools are being offered breakfast and lunch meals at no charge.  This district wide meal benefit will be in effect until Friday, September 30, 2016.  Free or reduced price meal status, approved through the application process, will not  be utilized during this time.  September 30 is also the expiration date for prior year free or reduced price meal status, therefore, the Meal Benefit Application must be completed if continued meal benefits are needed after September 30, 2016. There will be no change in the procedure for students attending After Care Programs, since the snack meal is already being served free of charge.

Student accounts will continue to be active for the purchase of extra items.  A request for a refund of the student account is not necessary since the accounting process requires approximately 4 weeks, at which time, the Disaster Benefit will expire and funds may be needed.
