This summer, two Spartans had the opportunity to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) - Boston K. and Kenzy N.! This three day event held at Southeastern University in Hammond, LA made an impact on our students and gave them knowledge and skills to take back to OCHS.
Boston described the seminar as a life changing experience. "During the program, our days were loaded with activities where members of our group had to all come together to achieve a goal - ranging from games, a dance, small groups, creating chants, and ceremonies in the theater room. During this time, we gained skills to help us discover the leader within ourselves as well as developing leadership skills [to help others]...It was an amazing feeling to be around so many people who are just like me."
In the rest of his time here at campus, he plans to make a difference at Comeaux High. Boston noted the value in meeting new people and seeing new faces, and reflected on how many people are afraid to reach out and gain a real level of openness [with one another]. One of his major goals is to get to know more people, be an example, and influence others. "I plan to have a role in being a part of the bigger picture in creating a change for the life of a student at our school."
