LPSS Board Meeting Recap
Last evening, the Lafayette Parish School Board voted to allocate $1.5 million to support short-term and long-term internet connectivity solutions for the students and families of the parish. LPSS intends to use the funds to provide internet service to students who do not currently have service access and who qualify for meal benefits.
This plan for student connectivity is a collaborative effort between the Lafayette Parish School System, the Love Our Schools Link & Learn initiative and many other community partners. The goal is to provide student connectivity solutions across our community.
LPSS is also working closely with Love Our Schools to initiate additional plans for increased connectivity. Some of these plans involve:
- Forty-five buses will be equipped with Wi-Fi technology, which will be parked at various locations to provide internet access.
- Forty-five schools will have Wi-Fi extended out into their parking lots.
- Community-based organizations with Wi-Fi networks will allow accessibility to students.
