LPSS GEAR UP Celebrates National GEAR UP Week Starting September 21

The LPSS GEAR UP announced their participation in National GEAR UP Week 2020. This week commemorates the continuing success of Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), a college-access program providing students and families the support and resources they need for college success. Since its inception in 1999, GEAR UP has improved educational outcomes for millions of low-income, minority and disadvantaged students across the United States, including over 5,000 students in Louisiana this academic year.

LPSS GEAR UP will celebrate National GEAR UP Week 2020 by hosting informational presentations in classrooms at Acadiana High School, Carencro High School, and Lafayette School. Students will be reminded of the support available for postsecondary planning, college applications, scholarship applications, FAFSA completion, college readiness, and more. Throughout the week, schools will participate in specified “College Shirt Days.” On those days, students and teachers will show off their college spirit by wearing shirts for the schools of their choice. Throughout the week, students will display their college dreams. Additionally, teachers will display how they made their college dreams come true.
